Navy Expert Pistol Medal

History - Established 1969

The Navy Expert Pistol Ribbon accompanies the Marksmanship Medal, which is the highest award for weapons achievement. It is comparable to the Army and Marine Corps’ Expert Marksmanship Badge and is bestowed upon Navy members who achieve a qualifying score as an expert marksman with a 9x19mm Beretta M9 or .40 S&W SIG P229 DAK through an approved course.

Details

The medal features a target and a disk with the image of an eagle proceeding outward beyond the upper edge of the medallion. An inscription reads “EXPERT PISTOL SHOT - UNITED STATES NAVY.” The ribbon is navy blue with a thin vertical green stripe in the center and one toward each edge.

For those who qualify as sharpshooters, a bronze “S” device may be issued.
